BITTER END

Bitter, sweet, and sour come together in perfect harmony to create this excellent digestif. When I first imagined and tasted this drink, I had to look up the ingredients to make sure it wasn't an existing classic. It's one of my favorite post-dinner or late night drinks - not only because it's perfectly herbal, smooth, and fresh - but also because it requires almost zero effort.

Prep time: 5 minutes

Makes 1 cocktail

Ingredients:

1 oz amaro (I used Averna)

3/4 oz fresh lemon juice

1/2 oz Campari

1/2 oz Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)

1 dash bitters

Orange half-wheel for garnish

Instructions:

1.) Add amaro, lemon juice, Campari, Cointreau, and bitters to your shaker, and fill it about 2/3 with ice. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds or until the shaker feels really cold. Strain over a large cube in a rocks glass and garnish with a half orange wheel. You can even give it a squeeze if you're feeling motivated. Enjoy, and follow with a glass of water before bed.
