HOT TOMMY
A Tommy's Margarita is like a classic marg, but simpler (and therefore, better?). The standard version of this cocktail has a whopping three ingredients: tequila, lime, and sweetener. To shake things up a bit, this take on the cocktail has a hot pepper syrup, which gives these familiar flavors a fun kick! Easy, quick, and refreshing.
Prep time: 20 minutes
Makes 1 cocktail
Ingredients:
2 oz blanco tequila
1 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz habanero syrup (1 cup of sugar and 2 habaneros will make enough syrup for several cocktails)
Lime twist for garnish
Instructions:
1.) To make your habanero syrup, combine equal parts sugar and water on the stove and heat on medium, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Slice two habaneros several times vertically, but not all the way up (leaving the pepper intact at the stem end, forming a kind of pepper cage). Once sugar is dissolved, reduce heat to low, add peppers, and allow them to flavor the syrup for about 10 minutes. Remove the syrup from heat, strain well, and let cool slightly.
2.) Add tequila, lime, and syrup and fill shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds or until the shaker feels really cold. Strain over fresh ice in a glass of your choice and garnish with a lime twist. Enjoy.
